The Old Charter 101 is a Kentucky straight bourbon from the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, and is bottled at, you probably guessed it, 101 proof (50.5% ABV). It is distilled from Buffalo Trace’s mash bill #1, which is estimated to be around 10% rye, giving it a good, spicy back-bone. This bourbon is excellent neat or on the rocks, or in a wide variety of cocktails and holds up very well due to its proof. A very versatile whiskey, indeed.
The history of the Old Charter brand goes all the way back to 1874, and it is still distilled based on the same methods as back then.
