A rare new release from Oban Distillery, the distillery that makes up the Western Highland part of the “Classic Malts” range. ‘Little Bay’ had previously been sold at Travel Retail only, but has now been added to the standard range.
This seaside town has long been associated with high quality seafood, but also (since the distillery’s foundation in 1794) single malt whisky. This bottling’s title ‘Little Bay’ pays homage to the distillery’s maritime heritage.
This whisky has been matured in a mixture of refill American oak hogsheads, former Sherry European oak casks and refill casks that have been fitted with new oak ends. The matured whisky is then married in smaller, 200 litre former Bourbon casks, injecting it with a big boost of oaky vanilla and spice.
This dram serves up notes of orchard fruit, slight mint, juicy citrus, milk chocolate, salted caramel, cinnamon, nutmeg, some tropical fruit, candied ginger and a little floral character.
Something surprising and different from Oban, this is a welcome addition to their range.
Pride of the fleet. An absolute joy to drink, not that the rest of the Obans are bad but this one is head and shoulders above them
