A powerful overproof rum Agricole from family owned distillery Neisson.
This rum perhaps offers the clearest example of Neisson’s distinctive, slightly coastal style.
Made with the fermented pressed juice of the sugar cane, rather than molasses or other sugar by-product, this rum possesses all the grassy notes typical of an Agricole.
The bottling was first introduced for the distillery’s 70th anniversary in 2002, and it has continued ever since as an annual release. The spirit is entirely unaged, resting in steel tanks for 6 months following distillation in Neisson’s Savalle still.
Apparently, only the distillate that exhibits the most vivid sugar cane flavour is used for this bottling. And so it shows, with l’Esprit offering intense notes of sea spray, waxy sugar cane, white powdered sugar, coconuts, lime, berries, apricots, nuts, chilli, peppery spice and underripe mangos.
Bottled at a humongous 70% ABV, this is not for the faint of heart, but is complex enough to be enjoyed neat (we do recommend a touch of water). It also makes for an incredibly flavoursome Ti’ Punch.
In something of a strange juxtaposition to the power of this rum, each bottle comes with a neat little carry bag.
