A bizarre, fantastic, and delicious gin, made with an cenizo agave, joven mezcal base. To this is added typical gin botanicals: angelica, coriander, juniper (of course!), cardamom, dragon eye, Guinea pepper, orange peel and nutmeg. This is part of a growing trend for localised botanical gins, with it using Mexican botanicals to kick up the spice a little. Avocado leaves are an interesting addition, as are chile ancho, hibiscus and lemongrass. The nose opens up with classic gin flavours – but smoked! Juniper on a barbeque, burnt grass, lime rind, smokey floral aromas and a lovely succulent agave. The palate is rich and full, with smoke, green twigs, spice, limes, some chilli heat and a pepper juniper. The finish lingers with a complex sweetness and a slightly savoury dry spice. This could be extremely versatile in a number of different cocktails, or as an alternative and interesting Gin and Tonic.
Smokey Gin, very unique, very interesting
