A magnificent 12 Year Old whisky from Macallan, one of Scotch whisky’s most prestigious and iconic distilleries. This beautiful bottling takes Macallan’s typical spicy and fruity new make, and matures it in a mixture of the choicest former Sherry and Bourbon casks. They whisky is given an extra layer of complexity by also maturing it in American oak casks, that have been seasoned with Sherry – not a combination that is seen very often. The result is a lovely dram that really showcases the effect of the cask on a whisky, with the Bourbon cask providing a lovely background of vanilla and caramel notes upon which the more Sherried flavours of dried fruit and woodspice can take centre stage. 12 years in oak ensures this dram has an exquisite maturity and balance. The nose offers up alluring aromas of vanilla, toffee, caramel and toasted woodspice, with a little dark stone fruits. The palate is thick with custard notes and dense sherried dried fruits, which compliment the spicy character of Macallan excellently. The finish lingers, brining more woodspice and sherry flavours, with a little charred oak towards the end. Another classic bottling from this distillery of relentless class.
