Doubtless one of Scotland’s hidden gems, and a bit of a cult-malt amongst those who know where to look, this is Longmorn’s new non-age-stated whisky. This lovely Speyside bottling is matured in not one, not two, but three different cask types: former bourbon barrels, Oloroso Sherry casks and hogsheads. The distillery has recently undergone a little bit of a rebrand, and this has changed the bottles so that they now feature and intriguing soft faux-leather base – perfect for protecting bottom of the bottle! The whisky itself shows of Longmorn at all its buttery, creamy best, with lovely flavours of sweet cereal, Sherry, vanilla custard and over-ripe bananas. The different cask types have really influenced the whisky, and to its benefit. A great bottling of a top-class distillery.
Longmorn 15 was once the whisky to get but since they have lost the underfired stills and resorted to water from an alternate source its not the dram in once was unfortunately
The leather "belt" base of the bottle is specifically to stop the bottle making a noise when being picked up or put down on the drinks cabinet. Perfect for sneaky husbands :)
