The 2016 Cask Strength release from one of our favourite distilleries here at Fine Drams, Kilchoman! Kilchoman have made their name producing young single malt of extraordinary quality, often with interesting maturation techniques. This bottling is no different, a delicious and vibrant peated whisky that has been bottled at 56.9%, and matured for around 6 years in quarter casks. These smaller casks allow for a quicker interaction with the wood and a greater intensity of woody, vanilla flavours in the final product. These notes pair particularly well with Kilchoman’s typical fruity-yet-ashy spritely peat. Like all Kilchoman whiskies, this has been bottled without use of colouring or chill-filtration. Only the second year of this cask strength whisky as a general release, we are certain that these bottlings will become cult-classics of the whisky world. A must-try from one of Islay’s most interesting distilleries.
