Not something one encounter every day, this bottling comes from the Issan distillery, located in Thailand’s North East.
A rather fascinating spirit, Issan make a style of Rhum Agricole (traditionally associated with former French colonies) using red sugar cane grown at their plantations. The rum is distilled in a pot still.
The company states that the rum has spent 12 months “refining”, presumably aging in a stainless steel tank to marry together.
The result is a grassy, bright rum with notes vanilla, flowers, herbs, lime rind, a little powdered white sugar, peppery spice, and some raspberry.
A great option for cocktails.
Just 1,200 bottles were released in Europe.
