When you think of rum, it’s likely you picture the turquoise sea and golden sands of the Caribbean, or perhaps the tropical rainforests of South America. What doesn’t spring to mind is the icy purity of the Arctic. But that’s where this rum takes its inspiration.
Isfjord translates from Danish as ‘ice fjord’, and the spirit takes its name from early explorers of the ice caps and fjords of Greenland.
The rum itself has been distilled at an unrevealed distillery on the Caribbean island of Saint Croix - a former Danish colony which is known to produce some of the highest quality sugar cane in the world. After distillation, the spirit has been aged in former Bourbon barrels for over 12 years, producing a complex and deeply flavoured final product.
Expect notes of fragrant sugar cane, lime rind, vanilla, tobacco leaf, sandalwood, toffee, sweet oak, white chocolate, mangoes, guava and very ripe bananas.
An impressive rum with an interesting origin.
