The tremendous Casa Herradura Tequila company, found in Amatitán in the Jalisco region of Mexico, near the Herradura Reposado Tequila. The distillery has been family run and producing the spirit since the late 19th century. This is an 100% blue agave Tequila produced using only plants which have been allowed to grow to full maturity, between 7–10 years old. This patience is rewarded, with the agave being all the more flavoursome for the production of Tequila. Herradura claim to be the first to first age their spirit in oak casks, thus creating the first reposado Tequila (reposado meaning “rested” after all). Here the flavours of the agave plant and the oak cask are beautifully blaanced, with the peppery, earthy nature of the spirit countered by the vanilla and toffee notes of the barrel. A truly excellent reposado which demonstrates just how good this spirit can be.
