The combination of peat and Port Wood is one of our favourites here at Fine Drams, and Glenglassaugh’s take is an excellent example of the style!
This dram was first released back in 2017 as part of a new series of Wood Finishes from the distillery.
The result is a delicious, somewhat sweet, somewhat smoky dram that displays the coastal influence on this Highland distillery. Whisky Maker Rachel Barrie said of this spirit:
"As surf crashes on Sandend Bay and invigorating North Sea air passes through our warehouses, Glenglassaugh matures first in American ex bourbon casks, before changing course in either Virgin Oak, Pedro Ximenez or Port wood, on a voyage shaped by the sea.”
Glenglassaugh Peated Port Wood Finish delivers notes of rich plums and damsons, burnt brown sugar, earthy peat, wood ash, vanilla, cinnamon, apples and pears, blackberries, citrus peel, cherries, some oily iodine, oak and cracked black pepper.
An impressive, fruity dram bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration.
