From the independent, family owned distillery, Glenfarclas, this is a 25 year old single malt whisky that is incredibly rich, both in aroma and taste. It is characterized by notes of marmalade, honey, freshly ground coffee and orange zest. This whisky is bottled at 43% and at its natural colour.
Nose: Curried plums, a little acetone, before a flood of old oak and prickling smoke. Some milk choc and aromatic bitters. Dried citrus rind- orange, bergamot and lemon.
Palate: Huge creamy sherry, with snappy citrus top notes that zip across the tongue. Plums and figs. Some chocolate covered barley, with a little vanilla custard. Old oak suddenly takes the fore with some leather- very much a gentleman’s club whisky.
Finish: This is where the oak really takes the fore, huge rolling oak with spicy leather and menthol. Delicious.
Overall: Decadent sherried whisky from one of the best sherry distilleries around, an all time classic, and a wonderful balance of oak, sherry and spice. Brilliant!
