A rich and complex dram from Highland distillery Glen Garioch. This bottling was originally created for travel retail.
Aged in Oloroso sherry casks for fully 15 years, this whisky has developed a superb depth of flavour. Glen Garioch is well known for its waxy character, which is fully on show with this dram.
Glen Garioch 15 Year Old Sherry Cask serves up notes of jammy dark berries, dried fruits, vanilla, some slightly sour cherry, beeswax liquorice, old oak, leather, cinnamon, honey, nutmeg and toasted cloves with orange rind.
A classic sherried profile from the Highlander, this dram is bottled at a cask strength of 53.7% ABV and without either chill filtration or colouration, allowing the waxy character of the spirit to really take hold.
A cracking dram, finished off with a rather smart label design.
A re-review of this one. I took a chance on another bottle, and it was night and day from the first. Yes....bad bottles do exist. I have had this experience with other whisky producers. My second bottle of this....and subsequently third....are fantastic!
Love this Glen Garioch. I found no sulphur at all. Wonderful dram but then I really am “a dog” for sherry matured malts.
I agree with Jim. Absolutely love the 17 yr...but this one disappoints. Strong sulfur smell and taste. Don't understand the great reviews from others on this one. I'll go back to the 17 yr without hesitation...
I was really excited to try this one but it was a total disappointment. Upon opening it there came a horrible blast of sulphur. I have been patient but it is so disjoint with or without water, I may put in the drain. I will continue to let it sit for a few months but? What a shock after such a great experience with 17 yr Renaissance Chapter 3. Must have had a bad bottling or storage issues.
