Part of a growing spirits trend for high-quality single grain whiskies, that fly in the face of those that claim the variety is just “aged vodka”. This bottling is a non-age-stated whisky from William Grant and Son’s Girvan grain distillery (which provides grain whisky for many of Scotland’s top blended drams). This bottling celebrates the No. 4 “Apps”. Apps is an industry term for “apparatus”, and here refers to a unique (at the time) still that Girvan installed in 1992. This still used a vacuum, allowing distillers to distil at very low temperatures. The whisky is vibrantly fruity, with a beautiful caramel cereal flavour resonating throughout. The palate builds to a crescendo of vanilla notes, with the cask dominating the flavour. The finish lingers with toasted spices and a little toffee. A top notch grain whisky.
