A single barrel from the Four Roses distillery. Bottled from barrel no. 37–3B which spent the entirety of its maturation in warehouse QN, at a strength of 50% ABV, this is a Kentucky straight bourbon with loads of character.
Nose: Fiery up front, with a lot of spice- mustard, cayenne pepper- giving way to thick vanilla and sweet, rich corn. Some yeast doughy bread, rye spice and spotted with hits of white pepper. Toffee, caramel, and slight overripe bananas round the nose off.
Palate: Sweet pepper, corn and chili powder- followed closely green cut grass. These fresh notes give way to a sudden rush of sweetness, all butter fudge and rich milk chocolate toffee. Buttery wheat, rye bread toast, croissant and slight creamy coffee.
Finish: Medium length, some slight menthol, rye spice heat and a little corn.
Overall: A simply fabulous bourbon, delivering power and subtly and illustrating how good single barrel whiskey- of any kind- can be.
