An exceedingly old Bas Armagnac from the highly regarded Darroze House.
Francis Darroze, who gives his name to the brand, has travelled around Armagnac, selecting the finest eaux-de-vie of the region from small estates on the best terroirs. Most of the spirit used for this expression has been produced for farmers by an experienced distiller using a traditional mobile still.
It’s thought that 30 different estates have contributed spirit to this bottling, which has been aged for three decades in Darroze’s Roquefort and Labastide d’Armagnac Cellars.
The spirit itself offers notes of deep dried fruits (apricots, prunes and raisins), allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, candied ginger, baked apples, toffee, milk chocolate, sweet white plums, red grapes, flowers, polished oak, leather, tobacco leaf and black cherries.
Bottled at 43% for a touch more body, this is a remarkably complex Armagnac.
