Long time fans of the Diageo Special Releases series will not be surprised to see Cragganmore’s inclusion in the 2016 outturn, it is their sixth time in the line up.
Cragganmore’s spirit is very faintly peated, and the distillery uses flat topped, short necked stills, alongside long fermentation and worm tubs to create a muscular, meaty new make with plenty of fruit and spice.
This whisky is non age stated, but has been matured in a mixture of American oak hogsheads and European oak sherry butts.
The result is a fruity, spicy dram with notes of stewed fruits, cinnamon, clove, treacle, chocolate, nutmeg, cigar box, apple, pineapple, liquorice, oak, sherry and cardamom.
Bottled at a cask strength of 55.7% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouration, the flavours of this dram are clear and assertive, whilst the mouthfeel is creamy.
Just 4,932 bottles were released worldwide.
