First launched in 2012, when it was the first permeant new addition to the worldwide Cointreau range since 1849.
The liqueur is based on a bottling called “Majestic”, which was launched by Edouard Cointreau in the early 20th century. This was a blend of orange liqueur and Cognac, and it inspired Bernadette Langlais (the current Cointreau master distiller) to try to create her own Cognac infusion.
A mixture of 70% Cointreau orange liqueur and 30% Rémy Martin Cognac, which is described by Cointreau as “the finest in the world”. This blend is then infused with almonds and walnuts.
The final result is packed with glorious notes of sweet and bitter orange rind, juicy citrus, tangerine flesh, chocolate orange, vanilla, saffron, jammy dried fruits, leather, toasted nuts, grapes, Cognac, nutmeg and faint wine tannins.
Delicious served simply over ice, this liqueur also adds outstanding depth to cocktails. Try next time you make a Sidecar.
