A lovely half-litre bottling of this super popular liqueur.
Chambord is named after one of the most recognizable and extravagant castles in France, the Château de Chambord, which boasts over 400 rooms and nearly 300 fireplaces.
Chambord is made in the Loire valley, where the Château is also found, and the liqueur was supposedly drunk by King Louis XIV, who enjoyed a raspberry and blackberry flavoured liqueur that was flavoured with spices, sugar and honey.
Modern Chambord was born after Sky Cooper, of the Charles Jacquin et Cie distillery in Philadelphia, discovered the liqueur and placed it in an orb-like bottle that had previously been used for another product. This turned out to be a piece of marketing genius, with the jewel-like bottle standing out on the shelves and capturing the eye of the drinker and the imagination of the bartender.
The liqueur is rich in flavours of raspberry, blackberry, vanilla, chocolate, vanilla, elderberry, raisins, sloes, damsons, plums, honey, prunes and blackcurrant.
A crucial ingredient in many modern cocktails, especially the famous French Martini.
