The rye resurgence in America shows no signs of slowing, with plenty of new brands appearing across the nation.
However, many of these “new whiskies” are produced merely by companies buying spirit from distilleries and bottling it under their name. Not so with Catocin Creek. This whiskey is made from scratch at their distillery, which lies close to the eponymous creek a tributary to the mighty Potomac river.
This 100% rye is made to a “pre-prohibition” style, and with local grain when available. The whiskey is wholly organic. The spirit is aged in Minnesotan white oak casks for just under two years, imparting a nice oaky note, which rounds off some of the fierce rye spice. Other notes of caramel, butter and citrus are apparent.
Makes a mean Manhattan!
