A contemporary recreation of a traditional, iconic rum. Black Tot is named after the final “tot” of rum given to British sailors in the Royal Navy – a daily tradition that continued until 1970.
Royal Naval Rum was famously based around the spirit of Britain’s Caribbean colonies: Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad. This produced a typically heavier rum blend, with the pot still character front and centre.
For this standard edition from Black Tot, they’ve updated the formula a little, tilting the style a little more towards the fruity and fresh end of the spectrum. The funk of Jamaica and the heavy, full bodied Guyanese style are still present, but play second fiddle to the lighter Barbados rum.
The final result is a fruity spirit that offers notes of pineapples, funky molasses, brown sugar, bananas, polished oak, syrup, creamy caramel, mango, apple pie, coffee beans and dark chocolate.
A great sipping rum.
