A rare rum from the island of Marie-Galante, one of the isles that makes up the Guadeloupe, itself an overseas department of France.
This rum is made in the traditional Agricole style, with a base of fermented pressed sugar cane juice. Bielle Canne Grise is especially interesting in that it is made with Canne Grise (grey cane), a rural style of sugar cane that originated in Barbados. Canne Grise has a slow growth and is very resilient to the weather extremes of the Caribbean, able to withstand droughts.
The result is a bright, fresh rum which possesses flavours of passion fruit, pineapple, sugar syrup, fresh sugar cane, chopped herbs, a little rose petal and lime rind with peppery spice.
Bottled at 59% ABV, this rum is perfect as a base for cocktails.
A truly excellent Agricole with an interesting production.
