A fantastic rum from the Dominican Republic, this is bottled in small batches annually, and aged for around 12 years. 1852 refers to the year that the company’s founder, Don Erasmo Bermudez created his famous “Bitter Panacea” spirit. This bottling, with its classic look and frosted green glass, is generally seen as the best offering in the Bermudez range. On the nose this rum opens with plenty of dried apricot and prune aromas, a little woodspice, some vanilla custard, some toffee and a deep caramel note. The palate brings a slightly salty caramel flavour, with some vanilla butter, dark chocolate, brown sugar, orange rind, espresso and dried fruit. The finish is long with touches of cedar wood, tiramisu and green apples. A real hidden gem, and quite a rarity with its small batch production, drinkers should move fast to try this classy rum.
