A supreme Haitian rum from Rhum Barbancourt.
This is a Rhum Agricole, produced using long-fermented, pressed juice of the sugar cane. Usually Agricole is distilled to about 70%, but Barbancourt take things to extremes, distilling their spirit to 90%, before reducing it to 50% with water and beginning maturation.
Having been matured for 15 years, this is a rich and extremely flavoursome rum, with less of the grassier Agricole than might be anticipated. Drinkers can expect dense, syrupy flavours of canned fruit, oak, butterscotch, cigar box, marmalade, cinnamon, tobacco smoke, grilled pineapples and overripe bananas.
This is a thick, oily spirit, with the bump in proof to 43% maintaining the mouthfeel and powerful aromas.
Ranked amongst the finest rums in the world, and it is easy to see why, a truly exceptional spirit.
