Aged in fist fill Oloroso sherry butts, first fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels, and regular refill casks, the Balvenie 12 Year Old Triple Cask combines the best of the three cask types. This single malt whisky is characterized by subtle spice, honey, vanilla, and mellow oak. It was originally released exclusively for the travel retail market, and is presented in a 1 liter bottle.
I've been a scotch drinker my entire adult life - 16-72. I am a casual drinker and I consume between 12 & 18 ounces a week. As I aged I've become more particular in my taste, so I and thanks to me son-in-law, the taste I enjoy is the 12-year-old triple cask. The woods are pronounced and smoky. The cherry arrives just a hair too late but one must lay that one on the single malt. There is a delightful hint of peat that caresses the pallette. Most enjoyable overall.
