A flavoursome offering from Auchroisk distillery, forming part of Diageo’s highly regarded Flora & Fauna series (so named as each bottling features either an animal or a plant on the label).
Auchroisk, pronounced “Orth-Rusk”, makes a heavy, spicy new make with some toasted nutty notes. This is created through a rapid production process, with speedy mashing, fermentation, and a boiling distillation which toasts the spirit a little. The spirit is mostly used in blends, though the Singleton of Auchroisk series (alongside this Flora and Fauna bottling) offers an official bottling.
This dram has a nutty character, with notes of almond and hazelnut, alongside a light profile, lemon zest, caramel, cream, grassy malt, honey, apple, gentle oak, a little allspice and hay.
10 years of maturation have transformed Auchroisk’s spirit from heavy, to light and fragrant.
