This powerful whisky was originally introduced for the travel retail market. Criminally overlooked, this distillery produces an excellent and unusual peated Highland malt whisky, and was first launched to provide the Teacher’s blend with a consistent quality of peated malt.
This particular bottling has enjoyed a maturation in three different cask varieties: quarter casks, barrels and the larger puncheons, all of which were of American white oak. This maturation has imparted a deep and complex woody flavour to the whisky.
Drinkers should expect a malty, powerfully peated dram, with oaky vanilla notes, some smoked tropical fruits and some dried citrus flavours. The different cask maturations have given this dram an oaky edge that balances well with the feisty, youthful spirit.
A wonderful alternative to the Islay powerhouses, this bottle is great value for money at this larger, 1 litre size.
