Designed to be a “sipping white rum,” this is a Rhum Agricole from Mauritius.
The name recalls the means of producing Rhum Agricole, whereby the sugar cane is crushed, and its juices fermented and distilled to create a fragrant, grassy and sophisticated rum. The majority of rums are made with molasses or other sugar by products, that create a heavier style.
Interestingly enough, this rum has been distilled twice, once in Mauritius, in traditional pot-stills, and again in Cognac, France, in the small alembics that are customary to that industry.
The result is a white rum far more characterful than the average, with abundant notes of fresh sugar cane, slight lime juice, apples, flowers, peppery spice and powdered sugar.
Arcane have succeeded in their ambition of creating a white rum worth sipping, but this bottling also works brilliantly as a base for cocktails.
