Adnams, mostly known for producing great beers since 1872, can also produce high-caliper gin, as shown by their First Rate Gin. This gin is distilled from three grains, all local to the distillery: barley, wheat, and oat. These grains are fermented to a mash of around 6% ABV, which is then firstly put through a “beer stripping” column, and then twice distilled in copper rectification columns, only adding the botanicals before the last distillation. Made from a total of 13 botanicals, the Adnams First Rate Gin is characterized by fresh citrus, juniper, and spice.
