Venerable bottling company Ian Macleod (the 10th largest Scotch company) has long been admired for his superb “As We Get It” bottlings: non age stated, cask strength selections from mystery distilleries, each showcasing a different region in Scotland.
This particular bottling in the series comes from the Isle of Islay, world-renowned for its flavourful, peaty whiskies. Without knowing which of the eight active distilleries on Islay this whisky is from, it does display a distinctive iodine flavour with coastal elements that should give the seasoned whisky drinker a clue.
Young and spirituous, this is a whisky full of peaty intensity. This is helped, to a large degree, by the enormous cask strength that the whisky is bottled at, a humungous 61.3% ABV. The label also displays the old British proof of 107.3o. This whisky has not been chill filtered or coloured artificially, and as the label says, is as close as possible to “straight from the cask”.
Once again the As We Get It series does not disappoint, offering superb quality at a great price point.
