A massive favourite amongst Bourbonistas the world over, this is the barrel proof bottling from the famous Kentucky distillery, Wild Turkey.

Wild Turkey first came to life as a brand in 1940, after Thomas McCarthy (an executive at Austin Nichols liquor company) took some whiskey samples with him whilst out hunting wild turkeys.

The Rare Breed bottling is a rare treat indeed, and rich and flavoursome Bourbon, made with a mashbill of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% barley. The Bourbon is a blend of spirits drawn from barrels aged for between 6 to 12 years. Both mashbill and age range ensure a whiskey which is perfectly balanced, yet retains a corn-forward, feisty profile.

Drinkers should expect notes of red fruit, cinnamon, sweet cakes, citrus rind, ginger spice and a little nutmeg. This newly repackaged edition has given the proof a kick up to 56.4% ABV, which means the flavours are even more assertive.

Over the years Wild Turkey has been the drink of choice for many people of discernment, including David Foster Wallace, Hunter S Thompson and Matthew McConaughey. This bottling is amongst the best of what the distillery has to offer, and at a superb price point too.
