Back in 2013 Cork Distillery’s Paddy brand celebrated 100 years in business, and marked the occasion by releasing this cracking Irish whiskey. Many things have changed in the 100 years that Paddy have been producing, but one thing that has not is the high quality of spirit that the company releases, demonstrated wonderfully with this bottle. This is a classic Single Pot Still style Irish whiskey, aged for 7 years, and presented in an old-school bottle that recalls the days of Irish whiskey gone by (note the lack of “e” in whisky!), with a charming presentation box. This dram has been matured in first fill bourbon and sherry casks, creating a wonderfully intense whiskey with a great depth of flavor. This is a small batch release, and is unlikely to stick around, so drinkers should move fast to try this piece of Irish whiskey history. On the nose the whiskey offers up aromas of citrus peel, boiled sweets, cut orange, grassy sweet cereal and cloves. The palate is thick with a classic Pot Still sweetness, rich with dried fruit, oranges and wood spice. The finish lingers with oak, cereal sweetness and sherried fruit. A moreish and historic Irish dram.
