A cracking annual release from George Dickel, a wonderful Tennessee Whiskey distillery that deserves more recognition.

Barrel Select is a small batch whiskey, made from around 10 casks, which are each hand selected by the Master Blender, Nicole Austin, each year. Each of these casks is between 10 to 12 years in age.

This whiskey is made predominately of corn, and has been double distilled and filtered through sugar maple charcoal in the fashion of the “Lincoln County Process”.

The spirit itself is rich in fruity, tropical notes, with a wonderful grassy corn flavour, and touches of corn bread, burnt sugar and citrus. There is the very faintest wisp of charcoal smoke here, which adds a delightful complexity.

A stunning effort from this distillery, and a must-try for all serious fans of American whiskey.
